The fine powder particles can get into the eyes and under contact lenses. Patient must remove contact lenses. It is advisable for the patient to wear protection as the eyes may be spattered during treatment. |
| |
Preprocedural rinse with BacterX® pro for a minimum of 30 secondes reduces airborne bacteria during treatment (BacterX® pro
is not available in US). |
| |
It is advisable to apply a non-petroleum-based lubricant to patient's lips to prevent the sodium bicarbonate from drying during the procedure. Cotton rolls or 2x2 gauze squares can be used to protect soft tissue. |
| |
Saliva ejector can be used in conjunction with high-speed evacuator. |
| |
Use the high-speed evacuator. The high-speed evacuator (C) should be positioned as close to the nozzle (5) as practical by operator or assistant. |
| |

Hold the AIR-FLOW® nozzle 3 - 5mm from surface of the tooth. Direct the nozzle away from the gingival margin toward incisal/occlusal surface.
The angle can vary between the AIR-FLOW® nozzle and the tooth from about 30 degrees to 60 degrees. The flatter the angle, the larger area is cleaned. |
| |
During treatment, direct the high-speed evacuator toward the air/powder jet deflected by the tooth. The angle of deflection is identical to the angle of incidence. |
| |

Don't direct AIR-FLOW® nozzle (5) towards the gum tissue (g). The jet of the air/powder mixture can cause injury to the tissue or when directed into the sulcus, an emphysema.
During treatment, use a small circular motion. |
| |

If you wish to polish the surfaces of the teeth after cleaning with the AIR-FLOW® handy 2+, adjust the water flow rate to the maximum. |
| |
When you remove your foot from the control pedal, the air/powder jet continues for a few more seconds. You can finish your treatment by taking these seconds into account. |
| |

You can also introduce the nozzle into the high-speed evacuator in the mouth and allow some time for the AIR-FLOW® handy 2+ to decompress, with no risk of damage to the soft tissues. |
| |

After completion of treatment, the patient can do a final rinse.
Tell your patient that during 2 to 3 hours following treatment, he should neither smoke, nor consume food or drinks which could strongly colour the teeth (tea, coffee...).
| |
It is advisable to apply fluoride after an AIR-FLOW® treatment as the teeth are virtually free of mucin. Use a neutral colored fluoride. |
